Senior High School Students compete in the District, Unit, and Provincial Meet 2017
Fifty-two (52) Senior High School (SHS) student representatives of the CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc. (CMDI) participated in the District Athletic Meet of 11 private and public schools in Bay, Laguna on September 6 to 8; Unit Meet on September 20 to 22; and Provincial Meet on October 11 to 13, 2017. This is CMDI’s very first participation in major sports events for schools.
The three-day sports competition, included basketball, volleyball, athletic track and field, athletic throwing, table tennis, badminton, and chess, which were conducted in different campuses in Laguna. The annual event aims to support the physical education and sports as fundamental components of the basic academic curriculum; provide training and exposure; enhance the youth’s talents and capabilities; encourage positive competitiveness; and inculcate the virtues of discipline, teamwork, and excellence.
“Participating in the outside school events such as the District Meet is one of the good venues and opportunities to improve our students’ sportsmanship and comradeship,” said Ms. Rona Angulo, Program Officer.
The CMDI Girls Volleyball Team, comprised of Ailah San Diego, Hazel Napiza, April Calinaw, Lidelyn De Torres, Paula Guevarra, Judy Ann Saballo, Janelle Punzalan, Ella Faith Miranda, Sherylyn Abellera, Isabell Ann Ravile, Abigail Unajan, and Eloisa Laban, bagged the second overall award in the District Meet. Meanwhile, the Boys Volleyball Team, composed of John Paul Quidit, Mark Selwyn Bacod, Ralph Varilla, John Micheal Gulay, Tristan Jack Martinez, Raphael Alamag, Warren Evangelista, Joshua Rivera, John Curibot, and Julius Labiano, placed fourth in the same event.
Still on the District Meet, Gabriel Paran and Joshua Valencia bagged the second place in chess, while Wendy Len Manoles placed third. Gemimilyn Pelotos ranked second in table tennis.
In the athletic track and field (male category), Renz Reloza earned the third place in the 100 meter dash; third place in the 400 meter dash; and fifth place in the 200 meter dash. Patricia Ann Yuson got the third spot in the athletic throwing (female category).
These achievements landed the student representatives to compete in the Unit Meet. Ralph Varilla, Hazel Napiza, and April Calinao qualified for volleyball. Renz Reloza was hailed as the gold, silver, and bronze medalist for the track and field, which got him the Athletic Grand Prix Award for the Division of Laguna. During the Provincial Meet, Reloza took home the bronze medal in track and field 4×100 meter relay and placed fourth in the 200 meter sprint category.
“We are very grateful to our coaches and CMDI for giving us the opportunity and supporting us from the beginning until the end of our enjoyable but challenging journey,” told Reloza.
“We’re very proud of our students and their accomplishments as well,” expressed Ms. Analeen Suelto, SHS Principal. She further signified that CMDI is always ready to support students not only in excelling academically but physically and socially as well.

Teamwork
Because of teamwork, CMDI Boys Volleyball Team placed fourth in the District Meet.
Athletic Track and Field
