CMDI supports World AIDS Day
Students of CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc. (CMDI) wore the iconic red ribbon on December 1, 2017 in observance of the World AIDS Day with the theme, “Increasing Impact through Transparency, Accountability, and Partnerships”.
The School Wellness Advisory Committee (SWAC) disseminated related trivia to students and staff to increase awareness on this global health concern. “Raising awareness about the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is our major objective to protect our students from this disease,” expressed Ms. Rona Angulo, the committee’s Vice Chair.
The World AIDS Day, founded in 1998 along with the first Global Health Day, is celebrated every December to boost awareness, fight stigma, support people living with the disease, and commemorate those who have died from the illness.
HIV, which destroys a person’s immune system, eventually progresses as AIDS and is among the world’s most critical health issues. According to reports, 29 Filipinos are infected with HIV daily— through unprotected sexual contact, needle-sharing among drug users, and mother-to-child transmission.
