CMDI joins International Social Science Camp in Boracay; wins in the Quiz Bee
The Senior High School students of CARD-MRI Development Institute (CMDI) from Bay, Laguna and Tagum City, Davao del Norte campuses participated in the 2017 International Social Science Camp (ISSC) at Kalibo and Boracay Island in Aklan, October 26 to 30.
Organized by Borres Youth Leadership Institute (BYLI) in collaboration with the National Youth Commission (NYC), the camp gathered more than 400 students from 81 schools nationwide.
With the theme “Combating Global Challenges through Sustainable Development Agenda 2030”, the camp focused on boosting the participants’ consciousness on societal issues; elevate their interest in learning the fields of Social Science; enhance and develop leadership skills among the youth; promote nationalism; and create networks and strengthen the community of young global leaders as catalysts for social positive change.
The delegates were able to learn new concepts, ideas, and experience diverse cultures through the International Academy Program. At the camp, various colorful national costumes were featured. A night was also allotted for the students to showcase their respective talents.
Aside from experiencing the scenic places the Boracay Island can offer, students were also exposed to various social activities by joining outreach programs, attending the Young Leaders’ Forum, and poster-making contest.
One of the highlights of the camp was the International Social Science Quiz Bee Competition. Only 17, including CMDI, of the 81 participating schools competed at the quiz bee. Senior High School students Sharina Ilagan and Daniel Valenzuela of Bay, Laguna campus bagged the sixth place while Caroline Indangan and Leslie Rellanos of Tagum City, Davao del Norte campus claimed the ninth place.
“This is our first time to attend the ISSC and we are proud of our students and their achievements,” said Mr. Alden Bryan II San Jose, one of the coaches and Social Studies Instructor of the school.
Ms. Leslie Garcia, coach and Social Studies Instructor, also expressed her happiness in being part of their students’ journey.
During an interview, the CMDI SHS student representatives expressed how grateful they are to the institution for giving them the opportunity to learn, showcase their skills, establish networks, and meet fellow students from another region.
