CMDI students compete in TESA sports festival

The CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc. (CMDI) joined for the first time this year’s Tertiary Schools Association (TESA) sports festival on January 25-27, 2018 and immediately bagged the championship in the Men’s Volleyball.

The TESA was established in 2000 and currently has 11 member schools in San Pablo City. “As they are open to guest membership, CMDI took the opportunity to be part of their growing partners,” according to Ms. Rona Angulo, Program Officer.

The event aimed to support sports activities as part of the academic curriculum; strengthen positive scholarly relationships; instill sportsmanship and comradeship among the participants; and showcase students’ talents and capabilities.

Nine teams and 57 representatives from CMDI participated in the basketball, volleyball, badminton, chess, table tennis, and sepak takraw events in the three-day sports competition held in Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) Campus in San Pablo City.

The winning volleyball team was composed of the following Senior High School: Alckyn Basañez; Jan Gulay; Tristan Jack Martinez; Leojean Montelibano; Ralph Varilla; and college students: Edward Batangoso; Michael Lanip; Elbert Lantican; Nestor Macaraig Jr.; Iaxe Daryl Martinez; Marco Jay Navarro; and Reymond Quilantang.

In addition, the CMDI Girls Volleyball Team placed fourth while Wendy Len Manoles, Kaye Rivera, and Carl Angelo Del Valle ranked third in chess. Jemilyn Pelotos got the bronze medal for being third in table tennis.

“As what I’ve told the players before the event, they just need to enjoy every experience because it’s not just about winning but learning as well,” added Ms. Angulo.

“We really appreciate our students for representing CMDI and for doing their best to achieve goals,” concluded Ms. Glenda Lagarile, CMDI’s Deputy Director for Academe and Educational Partnership.
