The CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc. (CMDI), a member institution of CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI), received its approval from the Department of Education (DepEd) to offer Senior High School starting school year 2016-2017.

The Main Campus of CMDI located in Bay, Laguna and another campus in Tagum City, Davao del Norte are now ready to accept incoming first batch of Senior High School students this coming S.Y. 2016-2017. The Senior High School of CMDI Bay campus is offering several career tracks: (1) Academic track with specialization in Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM); and (2) Technical-Vocational-Livelihood with specialization in computer programming. Meanwhile, its campus in Tagum City is approved to offer Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM).

This step of CMDI is in response to the need of the country to elevate the quality of education. “CMDI upholds the mission of CARD MRI on improving the lives of socioeconomically challenged families. This is also in support to CARD MRI’s new battle cry: ‘One family, one graduate.’ We do this by offering high quality education to our youth. We believe that our youth, given the access to education, will help in eradicating poverty in our country. We are happy that DepEd has granted us our request to offer Senior High,” said CMDI Dean, Edzel Ramos.

According to DepEd, the Philippines is the only country in Asia and one of the three countries in the world with no 13 years of basic education. K-12 is the response of the country to nurture and produce globally competitive and well-rounded Filipinos providing first the students enough time to discover, develop, and improve their skills and capacities.

The Senior High School is the two additional years in secondary education where students may choose their career track based on their skills and interest. The first cohort to graduate from K-12 will be batch 2017-2018. Upon graduation, they are expected to be ready to pursue different paths, either further their study in a college or university or be employed or start their own businesses.

CMDI just began as a training unit of CARD in 2005 in response to the capacity-building needs of its staff and members. Today, CMDI is already a tertiary school offering BS Entrepreneurship with specialization on microfinance and development. The Institute is also a certified Microfinance Technology National Certificate II (NC II in MF Tech) provider and an accredited competency assessment center of TESDA.

“We, at CMDI, will always be ready to the education needs of the communities we serve. We are looking forward to serving more students who are dreaming of a better life,” he added.
